What is the Progress with the New Raiders Stadium?
It’s no secret that professional sports are making a mark in Las Vegas. With the announcement of the Oakland Raiders moving their franchise to Las Vegas it came with skepticism and praise. However, the location of the Raiders Stadium was a guessing game in the early talks of a stadium being built in Las Vegas. The South end of the strip has plenty of space for a stadium and parking. Mark Davis and other city officials have expressed concern over having a stadium too far out from the strip and wanted it closer to the casinos. This will give the hotels an advantage in getting more people to stay in their hotels than off the strip.
Las Vegas will have a great opportunity to play host to a number of events besides football. The new stadium will have concerts and other sporting events such as UFC fights that are in talks for finalization.
Breaking Ground in Las Vegas
In January 2018, the construction for the stadium began with blasting the bedrock on which sets in an area of 62 acres west of Mandalay Bay at Russell Road and Hacienda Avenue and between Polaris Avenue and Dean Martin Drive, just west of Interstate 15. Construction of the $1.8-billion stadium began on September 18, 2017, and is expected to be completed on July 31, 2020, in time for the 2020 NFL season and the 2020 NCAA season.
In January, construction crews began blasting caliche rock with dynamite to excavate and create the stadium bowl. On February 3, the Raiders opened a 7,500-square-foot stadium preview center at Town Square Mall, located a few miles from the stadium site featuring exhibits, memorabilia, and with a plan for simulations of views from individual seats and a large-scale stadium model.
Much of the look and overall design of it will be a 10 level domed stadium with a clear ETFE enclosed roof, silver and black exterior and large retractable curtain-like side windows facing the Las Vegas Strip. The design includes a large torch in one end that will house a flame in honor of Al Davis, the late long-time owner of the Raiders.
Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters
Las Vegas Headquarters will be in Henderson South East on Executive Airport Drive, just a couple of miles from the M Resort, South of the Las Vegas Strip. There is numerous commercial project being built in this area of Henderson. From apartment complexes to retail and restaurants that are lining up on St. Rose Avenue and Executive Airport Drive. With that is where the Las Vegas Raider Headquarters will be at. They are building this facility near the Executive Airport for easy access in and out of Las Vegas.
The Raiders Headquarters should be completed by Mid 2020 right before the NFL season begins for the inaugural season for the Las Vegas Raiders.
