Will Las Vegas Shutdown Again?

MGM Grand Resorts has expressed concern over the demand for visitors at their properties. Thus, closing Mandalay Bay, Park MGM and Mirage midweek. They will resume limited capacity bookings Thursday – Sunday.  MGM Resorts announced it will temporarily close the hotel sections of two more Strip venues, but with the hope the closures will not remain in effect “past December.”

Las Vegas Covid Cases on The Rise

Las Vegas has seen a rise in cases reported by hospitals in the area.

Over the past two weeks, Nevada has had an average of 963 new cases per day with a 13.7% test positivity rate, and 898 COVID-19 patients hospitalized as of Tuesday. Ten of 17 Nevada counties are flagged by the state’s COVID-19 Task Force for elevated risk of disease transmission. 

Sisolak advised not going out to stores, restaurants or gatherings unless essential. He also advised against parties and non-essential meetings and reminded faith leaders to follow public gathering protocols and to prevent congregating after in-person services. 

Sisolak said he was confident that mitigation measures if followed, will prevent the state from having to “turn around” and shut down again, as it did in March. 

What’s Open in Las Vegas?

You can still go to bars and restaurants at a limited capacity and social distancing. They will require you to wear a mask in all casinos and hotels.

Entertainment is limited even though venues are opening back up. Check with the hotel or ticket sales booth to see what is happening for certain venues.

Starting November 30, the Mirage and Mandalay Bay will accept no more reservations for Monday to Thursday stays, joining Park MGM and the Encore Las Vegas in shortening hours due to decreased demand.

When the off-Strip Rio resort returns before the end of the year, Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg has already warned the venue will only be accepting hotel guests four nights a week.

MGM Resorts assures visitors the casino floors, restaurants, and “other amenities remain open at properties throughout the week,” including the Share Reef Aquarium exhibit. Traditionally a slow month for tourism, Mandalay Bay’s sibling venture, the all-suite Delano Las Vegas, remains open seven days a week.

You will have to put your mask back up if your eating, drinking or smoking at a hotel property. (someone will tap you and remind you to put your mask back up). Some properties are thinking about a temporary no smoking ban inside the casino floor.

Las Vegas Locals Asked to Self Quarantine

Governor Sisolak is asking local Las Vegas residents to self-quarantine again for the next two weeks as infection trends surge in the state and across the country. The governor’s announcement also served as a warning: Make the choice to stay home now and slow the outbreak or he would “be forced to take stronger action.”
