The pandemic has hit hard for Las Vegas and the businesses and people that are employed by some of the largest casinos and hotels here are unemployed and don’t see the Vegas as it once was.

Las Vegas is very dependent on its visitors and tourist industry. Before the shutdown, Las Vegas brings in over 42 million people here a year. With large conventions that happen year-round has now come to a screeching halt and no one is certain those numbers will return. The McCarran airport hardly has any significant flights coming into Las Vegas due to airline restrictions and cancellations. This put Vegas is a vulnerable position as things are not getting any better here.

What to Expect in The Months to Come

Businesses will shut down. Not only will small businesses shut down but large casino operations will shut its doors due to the low turn out. Off the strip casinos, like Texas Station and Fiesta have shut down indefinitely. No one could have seen this coming and its a harsh blow to the economy here in Las Vegas. People will start to move out of Las Vegas and find work elsewhere. Or we could be stuck in cities that have no economic turnaround in the foreseeable future. Unemployment has become a huge problem here with filings not being tended to by the UIA. People are not receiving any unemployment benefits because of the latency of the Nevada state system has always had issues with claims and it just seems the state of Nevada doesn’t want to pay unemployment benefits. It’s been a systematic issue with there computer systems and they have shut it down for updates with no avail to most filers. Most have turned to a Facebook group to get help from other people with the same issues. It’s been very helpful to some people that are seeking information about UI benefits.

Can Las Vegas Pull Through a New Reboot?

Las Vegas has a knack for reinventing itself when the going gets tough. Casino operators can make changes and adjust to economic hardship at a moment’s notice. The bean counters know their numbers all too well here, and in a dire situation such as the global pandemic, we are all experiencing the adjustment came quickly with instant layoffs and closures. A Vegas reboot may happen with professional sports and keeping in demand for sports betting and gambling inside casinos.

Will There Be a Second Shut Down in Las Vegas?

Social distancing and wearing of masks are a must here in Las Vegas. Add to stricter guidelines for casinos and visitors. Masks must be worn at all times in a casino. If you are not wearing a mask a casino spotter might ask you to put a mask on or to pull up your mask if it is below your nose. However, Vegas is known for no restrictions and hardly any rules. This is a good reason for surrounding states that are shut down to make the venture to Vegas and enjoy a weekend here. The lack of social distancing is a prime example of having too many people in one spot at casino floors and pools. Plus, on top of that masks go to the wayside after a few drinks or to have a smoke. So, the number of new infection cases may rise here in Las Vegas and causing our Governor to take action to close or venues, bars or even worse casinos.
